HEDI History

1970 – Company foundation

Founding of the company as a sole proprietorship by Helmut Diebolder in Osterberg. Field of activity: Contract manufacturing of machine controls.

1972 – Electrical installation company

Conversion of the company into an electrical installation company with around 20 employees.

1975 – The first cable reel

Helmut Diebolder’s first in-house product is a cable reel. The construction, which is protected by international patent law, is in such great demand that the premises soon no longer suffice for production. The production and storage area is tripled.

1977 – Foundation of the HEDI GmbH

Foundation of HEDI GmbH in October. The name “HEDI” is derived from the first letters of the company founder Helmut Diebolder

1980 – Move to Babenhausen

After the production site in Osterberg could no longer be expanded meaningfully, a new, modern industrial plant was built in the then newly emerging industrial area in neighboring Babenhausen.

1985 – Winner

A new cable reel developed by HEDI is the only one of 16 products evaluated to receive the test grade “GOOD” from Stiftung Warentest. HEDI now has 60 employees and a new warehouse with an area of 1,500 square meters is built. The free production space at the Osterberg site is used to build up the second mainstay, cable assembly. Cable harnesses and electrical assemblies are produced there for industrial customers.

1994 – Managing director growth

Robert Diebolder is appointed managing director.

1998 – ISO-certification

HEDI successfully implements the quality management system according to ISO 9001.

2002 – Cable reel development

For the production of the newly developed cable reel series StarLite, Primus and Professional, a further production hall with goods issue warehouse is being built. The new cable drums are now manufactured on a robot-assisted production line.

2003 – Introduction of machine luminaires

The cable assembly division is further expanded and the production areas renovated. In addition, a new product line with machine luminaires is introduced to the market and sets new standards in the price-performance ratio.Maßstäbe.

2006 – New management

At the turn of the year 2006/2007, the company’s founder, Helmut Diebolder, left the management team, but remained with the company as a partner and consultant. Robert Diebolder is now the sole managing director.

2008 / 2009 Introduction of e.STATION and m.STATION

Introduction of the new socket distributor series HEDI e.STATION and m.STATION. In addition, the cable assembly production halls and parts of the warehouse will be energetically renovated during these years.

2010 / 2011 – Entry into LED-technology

HEDI enters the LED technology. The first machine light HEDI LEDpro! with the associated cooling technology for high-performance LEDs was developed and launched on the market.a

2012 / 2013 – Entwicklung HEDI LEDCUBE!

Encouraged by the outstanding success of the LEDpro! machine light, the company focused even more intensively on LED technology and developed the next LED light product. The HEDI LEDCUBE! This sets new standards in the field of work lights.

2013 / 2014 – Standortmodernisierung

The old office building from 1980 is demolished. A new, modern and larger administration building is being built so that there is enough space for the next steps in growth and restructuring. Our own combined heat and power plant with natural gas technology goes into operation at the same time. We generate our own electricity as required and use the resulting heat in our buildings.

2017 / 2018 Development of HEDI LED.Zoom

Introduction of the new machine and workbench light HEDI LED.ZOOM. For the first time, a lamp was developed with it that has a magnifying function and two integrated lenses.a

2018 – Development of Generation 7 cable reels

The latest and seventh generation of cable reels from HEDI was presented for the first time at the trade fairs in Cologne and Frankfurt. The innovative and well-engineered product was developed as an all-plastic cable reel and thus corresponds to current and future safety standards and requirements of customers and users. So that the new series can be produced, investments were made in further machines and an additional production line was built.

2020 – A new hall is being built

In order to be able to further expand and improve our two mainstays, the foundation stone will be laid at the beginning of 2020 for our own and larger production hall for the areas of cable assembly and control cabinet construction.

2021 – Move into the new production hall

In May 2021, the cable assembly department moved into a new, spacious and light-flooded production hall. State-of-the-art machines and highly concentrated skilled workers work at long assembly tables on 1,800 square metres.

2022 – Expansion of Generation 7

With the Generation 7 “Companion” and the Generation 7 “Coworker”, HEDI is expanding its all-plastic cable reel range. The series promises maximum safety and impresses with numerous ergonomic features. With the two new models, compact all-plastic cable reels are now also available

2024 – Flooding & renovation of the administration building

On June 1 and 2, 2024, devastating flooding occurred in Babenhausen. The HEDI company premises were also partially flooded and parts of the administration building were devastated. As a result, the damaged areas of the administration building were renovated.

2025 – Development of the light band reel and Generation 7 Companion PLUS

In June 2025, HEDI will present a newly developed light band reel as a new product. Its unique feature is the thermal protection that protects the light band from overheating. In addition, the Generation 7 series has been expanded to include the Companion PLUS. The Companion PLUS is an intermediate model between the Champion and the Companion and enables models with higher cable cross-sections based on a Companion cable reel.
